The government of Bangladesh has decided to provide long-term visas to Maldivian students attending government-approved educational institutions or undertaking internships in Bangladesh for the length of their respective courses.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the decision will make it more convenient for Maldivian students currently attending educational institutions or undertaking in Bangladesh as well as those who plan to travel to Bangladesh for education and internship. Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has thanked the government of Bangladesh and Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen for facilitating long-term visas for Maldivian students.
Previously, Maldivian students in Bangladesh were required to renew their visas every year. The decision to provide long-term visas to Maldivian students will also alleviate the difficulties in obtaining visas.
The decision was a result of the discussions held between the governments of the Maldives and Bangladesh during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s visit to Bangladesh in 2021 and subsequent visits by Vice President Faisal Naseem and Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid. Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina also vowed to facilitate long-term student visas for Maldivian students during her visit to the Maldives in 2021.
