Tourist arrivals increase by 22.7% with half a million visits

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that half a million tourists have visited the Maldives which is a 22.7% increase.

Statistics from the tourism ministry show that a total of 483,624 tourists visited the Maldives as of March 23 which is an increase of 22.7% compared to 394,204 tourist arrivals during the same period in 2022. The statistics show that the highest number of tourists arrived from Russia. In this regard, a total of 59,987 tourists visited from Russia, 52,276 visited from India, 44,839 visited from the United Kingdom (UK), and 43,267 visited from Italy as of March 23.

Additionally, tourist arrivals from China have been increasing in the past weeks. China was the top source market until the country closed its borders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Chinese tourists began visiting the Maldives again this year after the country re-opened its borders. A total of 15,175 tourists have arrived from China so far this year and the country is currently the eighth top source market.

The statistics also show that the Maldives is recording a daily average of 5,898 tourist arrivals. The government aims to record 1.8 million tourist visits this year.
