Maldives experiencing best fishing season in four years

The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has revealed the country is currently experiencing the best fishing season in the last four years. The demand for fish is increasing as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.

Speaking to PSM News, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MIFCO Ismail Fauzee said fishing has been remarkably good in different regions of the country. He said a total of 36 fishing vessels caught 250 tonnes of fish on March 20. He, however, said the number of fishing vessels going out to fish is somewhat low.

MIFCO is making efforts to find solutions to the difficulties in processing fish. As such, the first of the four vessels to be brought in to increase the fishing capacity called Jazeera 103 is scheduled to be brought from South Korea on April 7.
