The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has revealed that Ghasshan Abdulla has won the by-election held to elect the president of the Dhidhdhoo Island Council, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
A total of two candidates contested the election. Ghasshan, who contested as an independent candidate, won the election with 64 votes. His opponent Ahmed Zalif, who also contested as an independent candidate, got 47 votes.
ECM is also preparing to hold another by-election for Dhidhdhoo Council to elect a new member for the vacant seat following the resignation of a councillor.
