President ready to hold discussions after JP announces candidate

The President's Office has stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will decide on an action to take in regards to Jumhooree Party (JP) fielding a candidate, after he discusses the issue with JP.

Ruling government coalition member JP has decided to field its own candidate and lead its own coalition in the upcoming presidential election. The party council made the decision but has not yet announced the candidate.

Regarding the issue, Spokesperson at the President's Office Miuvaan Mohamed said that President Solih has not received a reply to his letter inviting JP to re-join the coalition for the presidential election. He noted the hindrances in having to field two candidates under one coalition and said President Solih is ready to discuss the issue after JP announces its candidate.

Additionally, Spokesperson Miuvaan said President Solih will continue his political activities with JP after the discussions and that Adhaalath Party (AP) has agreed to re-join the ruling coalition for the election. JP and Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) are the coalition parties that have yet to respond to President Solih's invitation.

Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has also agreed to join the ruling coalition, and President Solih has expressed his wish to continue serving the nation after winning re-election through a coalition.
