Judge Adam Mohamed has been appointed as the acting Chief Judge of the Criminal Court of the Maldives.
Judicial Service Commission (JSC) stated the decision to appoint Judge Mohamed as the acting Chief Judge was made during a meeting on March 5. The decision was made after Chief Judge of the Criminal court Ahmed Shakeel was appointed to the High Court.
Judge Adam served as a defence lawyer at the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) before being appointed to the Criminal Court in 2021. He was appointed as acting Chief Judge of the Criminal Court on a previous occasion after then-Chief Judge Ali Rasheed Hussain was appointed to the Supreme Court.
JSC has also decided to appoint Magistrate of the Villingili Magistrate Court Azeem Hassan as acting Chief Magistrate of the Gaafu Alifu Judicial Constituency after Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Ihsan was appointed to the Criminal Court.
