The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to complete infrastructure development projects in four islands.
The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted MTCC to design and build coastal protection structures in Himmafushi in Kaafu Atoll and Mathiveri in Alifu Alifu Atoll, expand the jetty area in Kulhudhuffushi City, and develop the harbour and build a boatyard in Kendhikulhudhoo, Noonu Atoll.
As such, MTCC will be building coastal protection structures on the southern side of Himmafushi, which will include a 160m quay wall, 53m groyne, and 127m breakwater. The state-owned company is tasked with completing the project within six months at a cost of USD765,000.
Additionally, the coastal protection project in Mathiveri includes the construction of a 54m revetment and 63m groyne on the western side and a 70m groyne on the southern side of the island. MTCC will also be building a 110m breakwater and a 70m groyne on the eastern side. The company is tasked with completing the project within eight months at a cost of USD1.6 million.
As per the Kulhudhuffushi project, MTCC is tasked with expanding the jetty by 4m and building a platform within eight months at a cost of USD843,000.
Furthermore, MTCC will be upgrading the harbour in Kendhikulhudhoo by expanding the area and constructing a 200m breakwater and an 86m jetty. The company is tasked with completing the project within four months at a cost of USD5.1 million.
