Maldives requests Germany’s support to negotiate tariff rates

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has explored avenues for Germany’s support for negotiating tariff rates for Maldivian fish exports. He held the discussion during a meeting with the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Office of the Federal President in Berlin.

The discussions at the meeting focused on strengthening Maldives-Germany bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Both leaders expressed interest in expanding collaboration in climate change, renewable energy opportunities, aviation, and transport.

At the meeting, President Solih praised Germany’s leadership in the European Union (EU) and explored avenues for support for the Maldives in negotiating tariff rates for Maldivian fish exports and easing visa facilitation for Maldivian travellers. The two leaders concluded their meeting by reiterating their commitment to continue working together in areas of mutual interest and for the common good of the people of both countries.

The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Germany in 1966.
