Maldives and Germany discuss growing partnerships

The Maldives and Germany have discussed growing partnerships, especially in the areas of tourism, trade and economic cooperation, and environment and climate change. The discussions took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Dr. Tobias Lindner, the Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Minister Shahid expressed appreciation to the government of Germany for the continuous contributions made towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives and highlighted the importance of sustaining the momentum of the partnership. He also acknowledged the role played by Germany in the European Union (EU) and highlighted the pivotal role played by the EU in reviving democracy in the Maldives.

In conclusion, Minister Shahid and Vice-Minister Lindner reiterated the commitment of both countries to continue working closely together, bilaterally and in the international fora, on issues of mutual interest.

Minister Abdulla Shahid is currently accompanying President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on an official visit to Germany.
