Ensis Fisheries Private Limited has purchased 14 tonnes of yellowfin tuna from a fishing boat from Feeali, Faafu Atoll, for USD55,000.
The boat, called Bandharee, broke the record for most yellowfin tuna processed, which was previously held by a fishing boat from Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll. The boat, called Maahoaraa, received USD42,000 for 11 tonnes of yellowfin tuna.
Feeali receives most of its income from fishing with its 12 fishing boats. In addition, a 25-tonne ice plant was built on the island as part of the government’s efforts to develop the fisheries sector.
