MPS launches awareness programme on safety at sea

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched an awareness programme on safety at sea.

The programme is being conducted in collaboration with marine policing and local policing teams. It is designed to make sea travel safe for residents and visitors to the Maldives as well as reduce incidents at sea and prevent harm to travellers and damage to property. It will also familiarise the public with maritime-related laws and regulations.

The programme will be held on all inhabited islands and will provide information to seafarers and owners of vessels as well as police officers, local councillors, school students, teachers and parents. The first sessions of the programme were held from March 3-7 in Thinadhoo and Faresmaathoda in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll as well as Villingili and Gemanafushi in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
