Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has expressed confidence that the government will be able to complete the projects planned in the state budget.
Responding to questions at the Parliament, Minister Ameer refuted claims that the Maldives is at the risk of going bankrupt and said that the initiatives planned for this year will be implemented. He also said that the government is continuing to repay its debt, which has been restructured based on the market.
Additionally, Minister Ameer said that the government had to accept loans to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted that the pandemic had significantly decreased the state revenue but the government was able to continue its developmental initiatives due to loans and grants.
