The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has won the by-election to appoint a female member to Vaikaradhoo Island Council in Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
A total of two candidates from MDP and Adhaalath Party (AP) contested the by-election. Fathimath Shizuna from MDP won the seat with 283 votes. Her opponent, Fathimath Nazula from AP got 258 votes.
In addition, a by-election to a appoint member for Vaikaradhoo Women's Development Committee (WDC) was also held on the same day. As such, Fathimath Zunaina from AP won the seat with 376 votes. She defeated Ramziyya Ibrahim from MDP who got 163 votes.
