President confident that MRM and JP will join MDP

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that he is confident that the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) and the Jumhooree Party (JP) will form a coalition with the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for the upcoming presidential election. He made these remarks while speaking at a meeting with MDP supporters in Hirilandhoo, Thaa Atoll.

Speaking at the meeting, President Solih reiterated his belief that the formula for winning the upcoming presidential election is forming a coalition. He also noted those who opposed a coalition are now having discussions on forming a coalition with other parties.

Additionally, President Solih said he has invited parties to form a coalition for the upcoming presidential election. He said that an election cannot be won in one round without a coalition and he hoped that the current coalition would decide in the best interest of the public. He also believes that MRM and JP will form a coalition with MDP.

MDP has granted the authority to President Solih to form a coalition for the upcoming election. As such, he has invited some political parties to form a coalition including MRM and JP. So far, Adhaalath Party (AP) and the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) have decided to form a coalition with MDP.

MDP came to power in 2018 with a wide coalition consisting of MRM, JP, and AP.
