State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) and the Maldives Polytechnic Institute have signed an agreement to develop human resources.
The agreement was signed by Managing Director of STELCO Ahmed Shareef and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Maldives Polytechnic Institute Mohamed Hashim. The purpose of the agreement is to allow students at Maldives Polytechnic to pursue an education in their desired field and allow STELCO to retain a well-trained workforce.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Managing Director Shareef said STELCO aims to provide the opportunity for all its employees to achieve certification this year through training programmes conducted by Maldives Polytechnic. He said the training opportunities will allow STELCO to retain employees in the atolls to maintain the utility services established in the islands.
Also at the ceremony, CEO Hashim highlighted the importance of educational credentials for those seeking employment and said that companies have a high degree of trust in the institute’s ability to train capable workers. He added that the institute is expanding its courses to more fields and called for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to assist in the development of the institute.
