Internal auditors prevent professional misconduct: MIRA

Commissioner General of Taxation Fathuhulla Jameel has stated that internal auditors prevent professional misconduct. He made the remark at the State Internal Audit Conference 2023.

At the conference, Commissioner General Jameel highlighted the importance for the Maldives to have a robust system to conduct internal audits. He said that the work has a more important and expansive role than just finding errors in financial statements. As such, he said that auditors need to evaluate the distribution of the office work and whether the process is in accordance with established regulations and office policy.

Additionally, Commissioner General Jameel said that the conference will allow auditors gain more knowledge and assistance. He also called on attendees to help make internal audits more efficient.

The State Internal Audit Conference 2023 is being held from March 1-2 at the Dharubaaruge convention centre. Over 1,000 professionals are joining the conference, including 300 state officials along with 400 representatives of local councils and online participants.

The conference is focused on audit procedure and related technical and administrative matters and saw the inauguration of the three-year strategic plan. In addition, Auditor General Hussain Niyazi and Chairperson of the State Internal Audit Committee Hassan Mohamed inaugurated the audit portal, which is a module of the Bandeyri Portal. The module will be used to securely maintain and release audit information. The module also features such as information on auditors at state institutions and members of committees as well as information on the audits being conducted at government offices.
