Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has revealed that the project to develop a tertiary hospital in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, is in the design stage.
Answering questions regarding the project in a letter to the Parliament, Minister Naseem said the fieldwork will begin right after the conclusion of the design stage. Funds have been allocated with a loan from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to develop the 100-bed tertiary hospital in Thinadhoo.
Furthermore, the Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in Thinadhoo has resumed services after Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) upgraded the hospital and renovated the emergency response department. As part of the upgrade, MTCC constructed 14 consultation rooms for the Outpatient department (OPD), two laboratory rooms, and four private rooms at a cost of USD2.1 million.
Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital is one of the five hospitals to be upgraded to a tertiary hospital. In addition, the hospital provides 19 specialty services and plans to introduce more.
