Faresmaathoda Airport receives 155 job applications

Regional Airports Company Limited has revealed that 155 job applications have been submitted from individuals interested in working at Faresmaathoda Airport in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

Regional Airports Company announced the recruitment of 45 employees for 15 positions at the airport. The job opportunities include airport manager, operations officer, admin staff, airport cleaning and garden maintenance, security agents, and firefighters.

The government has decided to open the airport on February 15. The airport was developed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) which is currently developing most of the domestic airports in the country. The airport, which was developed for domestic flights, has completed all major works and is currently undergoing the final works to bring it into operation. In addition, lights have been installed and tested for night flights at the airport.

MTCC completed the development of the Faresmaathoda Airport at a cost of USD10 million. The project involved the development of a 1,200m runway, taxiway and apron, along with the construction of a terminal building and fire building. The airport was developed after reclaiming land in islands near Faresmaathoda. The project began in 2021 and aims to improve the travel system in the southern region and pave the way for the development of local businesses and increase job opportunities.
