Satellite of first-ever space programme in Maldives tested

The satellite of the first-ever space programme in the Maldives has been successfully tested.

Institute of Global Success (IGS) began the process of producing and testing the satellite in late 2022 with Aerospace Engineer Hussain Assad, Electrical and Electronics Engineer Mohamed Junaid, and Mechanical Engineer Ahmed Ijaaz Abdulla.

The team noted that the satellite was designed to be compact with the capability to adapt to various missions. They also stated that videos of the satellite test will be released at a special ceremony.

IGS launched the first-ever space programme in the Maldives in November 2020, in partnership with KFS Space Foundation of the UK. The KSF Space Foundation promotes space science and assists satellite launches. The organisation is made up of scientists and experts from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the European Space Agency (ESA), and SpaceX.

The first target of the mission was to produce and test the first prototype satellite of the Maldives. The satellite will be used to gather data on climate change and global warming. The satellite is scheduled to be launched from Hulhumale' and the satellite data will then be collected and run entirely by a team of local youth.
