The Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has held a meeting with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to discuss forming a coalition ahead of the presidential election.
MDA has decided not to contest the presidential election and instead discuss forming a coalition with other interested parties. As such, the leaderships of MDA and MDP held a meeting, which included the Chairperson of MDP Fayyaz Ismail, and Deputy Parliamentary Group leader Mohamed Rasheed Hussain.
After the meeting, Chairperson Fayyaz said that MDP wants to form a coalition with as many parties as possible and said MDA has the potential to contribute to the continuance of peace and order established in the country. He added that MDP aims to win the presidential election in the first round.
The leadership of MDA has also met with the opposition coalition of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People’s National Congress (PNC).
Leader of MDA Ahmed Siyam Mohamed decided against competing in the presidential election in light of the political and economic situation in the Maldives. President Solih and Siyam met recently, although no details of the meeting were disclosed.
