The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has stated that the development of Hanimaadhoo International Airport will lead to the growth of tourism in the northern region of the Maldives.
Speaking to PSM News at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of MATI, Chairman Mohamed Umar Manik said that this year will see remarkable developments in tourism, similar to last year. He assured that MATI will continue to address and solve the challenges faced in the tourism sector. He also said that the government projects in the north and south will lead to the development of tourism in the regions, which includes the development of Hanimaadhoo Airport in the north and Gan International Airport in the south.
MATI appointed members to its board at the 33rd AGM and released two books on the past 50 years of tourism in the Maldives. The books were inaugurated by Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom. Secretary General of MATI Ahmed Nazeer said executive members discussed writing a book on the history of Maldivian tourism in 2020 and that they made the decision to write two books, one on the evolution of the architecture of Maldivian resorts and the other on the development of the country’s tourism industry.
