President invites MDP to come together despite differences

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has invited all members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to come together despite differences in ideologies to reach the common goal of winning the presidential election. He made the remarks at the official ceremony held to hand him the party's presidential ticket to contest in the upcoming presidential election.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih said the MDP primary election showed that the party seeks and practices democracy. He noted the primary also showed MDP has room for differences of opinion. He, however, called on all members to come together despite the differences in political ideologies to win the presidential election for the main ruling party.

Furthermore, President Solih went on to note that the purpose and needs of the MDP members are very clear and each of them wants the Maldives to be a place of peace and stability and to abide by the true faith of Islam. He also noted that party members support the development being brought to the Maldives.

Moreover, President Solih said every island becoming economically beneficial is the result of the development projects. He also spoke of the major challenges faced during the five-year term, noting many successful projects were conducted with the support and assistance from MDP.
