Two city hotels with 180 rooms to be developed in Gan

Addu International Airport Private Limited (AIA) is preparing to begin the development of two city hotels with 180 rooms in Gan, Addu City. Chairman Azaan Ahmed Zuhair made the announcement at a ceremony held to mark the 80th anniversary of Gan International Airport (GIA).

AIA stated that it is preparing to develop two hotels as part of its efforts to increase its sources of revenue. As such, the Dhoogas Hotel Project includes the development of a seven-floor hotel with 130 rooms and the Boutique Hotel Project consist of the development of a hotel with 50 rooms. AIA stated that the projects are in the tendering stage and contractors will be hired next month.

Dhoogas operated as a state-run guesthouse during the administration of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. The re-development of Dhoogas Guesthouse as a city hotel was initially contracted to Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) in 2017. However, the project was stalled due to various reasons and the current administration handed it over to AIA in 2021.
