Jumhooree Party (JP) has stated that it will fully support the decisions of its Leader Qasim Ibrahim on how to proceed in the upcoming presidential election.
Speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters, Secretary General Ali Arif said JP will support the decision even if Qasim decides to join a coalition or contest alone in the presidential election. JP has formed successive coalition governments since 2008.
Furthermore, Arif said the National Assembly will also decide on the amendments to the JP Constitution. He said JP will continue to elect members for the posts of president, vice president, leader, deputy leaders, and other senior positions. More than 900 individuals will attend the National Assembly to be held from February 24-25 at the Dharubaaruge convention centre.
The press conference was attended by some members of the JP Leadership, who joined after leaving the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) after it lost the presidential election in 2018.
