Local Government Authority (LGA) has recognised the Shaviyani Atoll Council and Bodufolhadhoo Island Council in Alifu Alifu Atoll as the most efficient councils of 2021.
Shaviyani Atoll Council and Bodu Folhadhoo Council achieved the highest points in the Local Council Performance Index 2021. In recognition, the Shaviyani Atoll Council was awarded the Gadahamaanthi Award and Bodufolhadhoo Council was awarded the Ranahamaanthi Award.
LGA stated efforts are underway to review the Local Councils Performance Index. The authority said a new Local Councils Performance Index will be used to measure and rank the performance of councils in the Maldives from 2023.
The Local Councils Performance Index was launched in 2015 to assess the quality of council performance and determine the ranking of councils. It is based on the core foundations of urban governance and the core principles of the Global Campaign on Urban Governance.
