Maldives records highest daily number of post-pandemic tourist arrivals

The Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the Maldives has set a new daily record for the highest number of tourist arrivals since the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the statistics published by the tourism ministry, 8,028 tourists arrived in the Maldives on February 11 which is an increase compared to the previous record of 7,668 tourist arrivals that arrived on February 12 last year which was the previous record. The ministry said the success was achieved through the efforts of those working in the tourism industry.

The statistics published by the tourism ministry showed that a total of 220,574 tourists arrived in the Maldives as of February 8 which is an increase of 31.1% compared to the same period last year. As such, the highest number of tourists arrived from Russia with 28,873 arrivals recorded. The second-highest number of tourists arrived from India with 24,127 arrivals recorded, and the third-highest number of tourists arrived from Italy with 20,692 arrivals recorded. In addition, 19,545 tourists arrived from the United Kingdom (UK) and 14,114 tourists arrived from Germany.

The Maldives records an average of 5,656 tourists per day. Tourists spend an average of 8.1 days in the country. The government aims to register 1.8 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year. The target for 2022 of 1.6 million tourist arrivals was reached on December 20.
