MTCC develops 20 roads in Fuvamulah

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the development of 20 roads in Fuvahmulah City, while the development of 11 roads are ongoing.

Speaking to PSM News, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adam Azim said highlighted the difficulties in completing the project. He said that six outflow pipes have to be installed for the stormwater drainage system to divert rainwater, adding that the rocky shores and strong waves make the work difficult.

Fuvahmulah City has many low lying roads that are prone to flooding. Mayor of Fuvahmulah City Ismail Rafeeq said that the roads pose health risks as they are either flooded during rain or accumulate large amounts of dust when dry. He said the developed roads have alleviated the challenges faced by residents.

MTCC was contracted to develop the roads of Fuvahmulah in 2019. The scope of the Fuvahmulah City road development project includes sub-base preparation of 122,659sqm, an asphalt wearing course of 95, 239 sqm, footpath preparation of 27,450sqm, road marking, streetlights, and stormwater drainage works of an area of 19,940m. The cost of the project is USD19 million.
