Islamic Ministry accepts complaints for poor and needy register

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has begun accepting complaints for the register of the poor and needy.

The Islamic ministry stated it has responded to all the registration forms submitted by residents in Male', Hulhumale' and Villimale' by December 19 last year. The ministry stated that complaints regarding the registry can be submitted by February 16.

Each year, individuals are allowed to submit forms to be registered as poor and needy or submit complaints. The register allows easier endowment of Zakat, which is an annual payment under Islamic law on certain kinds of property and used for charitable and religious purposes. The register also allows the government to provide assistance to the poor and needy.

A total of 2,012 individuals have submitted applications to register as poor and needy. The list will be finalised after the ministry evaluates the complaints.
