Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for laying asphalt on Ameenee Magu.
Speaking to PSM News, State Minister for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddin said RDC handed over the task of laying asphalt on the ongoing segments of Ameenee Magu to MTCC. He said MTCC was contracted to expedite the work as the ministry has not yet arranged the space for the machine brought by RDC to lay asphalt on Ameenee Magu. He also said RDC will continue the work in the future once the space for the machine is arranged. In addition, he said the sub-phase of the road is currently under construction and asphalt will be laid in the completed segments within seven days.
Speaking to the Parliament of the Maldives, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam said the agreement was initially drafted to complete the work by February this year. He, however, said the deadline for completion of the project has been extended to September due to delays encountered in the implementation of the project.
Additionally, RDC began preparations for the development of the fourth segment of Ameenee Magu. The fourth segment includes the road between State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) to Avid College.
The planning ministry awarded the project to RDC in July 2022, for the modernisation of Ameenee Magu. The company started the practical work in September 2022.
The modernisation of Ameenee Magu, one of the main roads connecting all the wards of the city, will be carried out in 13 segments. The project involves paving the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu with asphalt and installing a new stormwater drainage system. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million. RDC stated that the construction of water and sewerage systems is currently underway in the fourth segment.
