Female security personnel to be exempt from expelling male parliamentarians

Parliamentarian Rozaina Adam has decided to propose an amendment to the parliamentary regulations to exempt female security personnel from expelling male parliamentarians.

Speaking at the Parliament, Parliamentarian Rozaina expressed concern over the harassment of the parliament security team after videos circulated on social media, which mocked female security personnel that had been tasked with expelling parliamentarians who attempted to disrupt the Presidential Address. She said that the parliament security team expelled the members as instructed by the speaker and she expressed disapproval of individuals who used the incident to target the female security personnel.

Additionally, Parliamentarian Rozaina said that the parliamentary regulations should be changed to exempt female security personnel from expelling male parliamentarians from the chambers. She highlighted that female police, customs, and immigration officers are tasked with handling women while male officers handle men. She further said that the Maldives Police Service (MPS) tasks female officers with separating or arresting women while breaking up public gatherings.
