Ministry of Education has condemned the scuffle that occurred during a recent inter-school football match.
In a press release, the education ministry condemned the actions of the spectators involved in the incident and stated that these events are aimed at instilling discipline and camaraderie among students. The ministry urged parents and spectators at such events to refrain from acting in a way that is in opposition to the spirit of the events in front of students.
The scuffle occurred during the semi-final match of the Under-17 Inter-school Football Tournament held by the Football Association of the Maldives (FAM) on February 6, in which Kalaafaanu School beat Guraidhoo School 2-1.
After the match, supporters of the Guraidhoo School team ran onto the field to show their disapproval of the decisions made by the referee. FAM stated that action will be taken against the instigators.
