National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) has revealed that the business portal is the most used feature from the eFaas application which was launched to conduct government services online.
The business portal had 20,967 visits in January this year, the Viuga Online application by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) was accessed 20,808 times while the Hulhumale' application was accessed 13,394 times, according to NCIT. In addition, the Gedhoruverin portal was used 3,024 times while the Maldives Food and Drug Authority's (MFDA) application Dhirithi was used 2,874 times and other applications were accessed 16,358 times.
Minister of State for Environment, Climate Change and Technology Mohamed Shareef said the aim eFaas is to provide services as closely as possible to digital users. He said the application should be a digital service that works for the development of all.
The application was developed and maintained by NCIT since 2012. The application serves as the digital identity system used by the government and state agencies to provide online services. The service was launched in 2012 and has been in use for 10 years. Unprecedented improvements have been made to the service in the past four years. Most importantly, many services that used to be available at the offices of government institutions are now provided through eFaas.
NCIT stated that a total of 137,000 individuals have registered for eFaas. More than 440 services are provided through the portal. So far, the portal has been logged into 6.1 million times. Of these, 138,000 times were done in January alone. A total of 64 applications are available in eFaas and 40 applications were acquired in January.
During the last two years, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih along with the Parliament of the Maldives decided to develop eFaas as the national digital identity card. As such, the service has been developed so far and the two factor authentication has also been introduced. In addition, The online verification system for eFaas has been strengthened and launched. The face recognition technology now allows individuals to verify themselves anywhere at anytime.
