Over 130,000 individuals registered to eFaas in 4 years: NCIT

National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) has revealed that the number of individuals who registered to the eFaas application has reached over 130,000 in the past four years.

The application was developed and maintained by NCIT since 2012. The application serves as the digital identity system used by the government and state agencies to provide online services. The service was launched in 2012 and has been in use for 10 years. Unprecedented improvements have been made to the service in the past four years. Most importantly, many services that used to be available at the offices of government institutions are now provided through eFaas.

NCIT stated that a total of 137,000 individuals have registered for eFaas. More than 440 services are provided through the portal. As of 2018, a total of 8,125 individuals have registered for the service with over 129,000 registered in the past four years.

During the last two years, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih along with the Parliament of the Maldives decided to develop eFaas as the national digital identity card. As such, the service has been developed so far and the two factor authentication has also been introduced. In addition, The online verification system for eFaas has been strengthened and launched. The face recognition technology now allows individuals to verify themselves anywhere at anytime.
