Gov't to provide more land plots from Greater Male' Region

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed plans to provide more land plots in addition to the 5,000 land plots already allocated from the Greater Male' Region. He made the announcement while delivering the Presidential Address at the Parliament of the Maldives.

In his address, President Solih said the administration initiated efforts to address the long-standing housing problem in the Greater Male' Region and the housing problem in the increasingly populated islands in the atolls of the Maldives. As such, the president revealed his decision to provide additional land plots for the residents of the Greater Male' Region. He noted the government received 20,697 applications submitted for flats and 15,164 applications for land plots. He said the validity of these forms is currently being verified. In addition, he said that 556 housing units will be completed by May 2023 with 2,200 housing units currently under construction. He added the administration approved homeowner loans for 55% of the applications and signed contracts with 249 individuals.

In last year's presidential address, President Solih announced the allocation of 5,000 land plots to the residents of the Greater Male' Region which includes 1,000 plots in Hulhumale', 2,000 plots in Gulhifalhu, and 2,000 plots to be allocated from Giraavaru.
