Healthcare sector salaries to increase from May 1

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced salaries in the health sector will be increased from May 1, 2023. He made the announcement while giving his Presidential Address at the Parliament of the Maldives.

It is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to commensurate and harmonise the salary and wages of employees in all main sectors. President Solih has previously announced the salaries of health workers will be increased after increasing the salaries of education workers. He noted the salary structure of the employees will be studied to make necessary changes.

Delivering his address, President Solih expressed the living conditions of families have improved with the positive changes in salaries last year, adding the pay of the education sector has been harmonised and the salary has been changed as announced by the government.

The government has allocated USD155 million in the state budget for salaries and wages of employees while USD32 million is allocated for salary increments. A further USD2.6 million has is also allocated to hire more staff in the health sector. The government has allocated the largest budget for the development of the health sector.
