Male’ City Council opens waste management office

Male’ City Council has opened a waste management office.

Mayor of Male’ City Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said the office was opened to improve the council’s work to clean the streets of Male’ City by establishing a section to manage the administrative, operation, and managerial tasks.

Male’ City Council took over street cleaning in the capital city after the expiration of the contract with Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) in December 2022. The council has since been using its own employees and resources to clean the public areas.

In a recent incident, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a warning to Male’ City Council after it was found that workers had dumped waste at a land plot owned by the council. Waste are to be gathered at designated areas and EPA stated that it will investigate the incident.
