Maldives committed to working closely with Sri Lanka with renewed focus

The Maldives has expressed commitment to work closely with the government of Sri Lanka with a renewed focus on further strengthening the existing bilateral relations between the two countries, in both bilateral and multilateral spheres. The statement was made by the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka Ali Faiz after he presented his Letter of Credence to President Ranil Wickremesinghe at a ceremony held at the President’s House, Kandy.

During the ensuing courtesy call, High Commissioner Faiz expressed his gratitude for the honour to present his Letter of Credence and serve as the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka. He also conveyed greetings from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the people of the Maldives to President Wickremesinghe and the people of Sri Lanka. While noting the historical and close bonds between the two countries, High Commissioner Faiz thanked for the unwavering support and assistance to the Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka. He further commended the leadership of President Wickremesinghe and the government of Sri Lanka in tackling the current economic crisis and expressed hope for the country’s recovery at the earliest.

Meanwhile, President Wickremesinghe congratulated High Commissioner Faiz on the assumption of his duties as High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka. He provided his assurance that his government will work closely with the government of the Maldives for the benefit of the two countries and their peoples.
