MDP reveals no changes in final primary election results

The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has revealed that there are no changes in the final results of the primary election.

At a press conference, Chair of MDP’s primary election oversight committee Ibrahim Waheed said there are no differences between the preliminary and final results, and no result-changing complaints were filed. He added that the primary election was held without incident.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won the primary election and secured the MDP presidential ticket in a landslide victory, beating Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed. President Solih won the primary election with 61%, which is 24,572 votes, while Speaker Nasheed received 39%, which is 15,631 votes.

MDP plans to award the presidential ticket to President Solih in mid-February. Meanwhile, Speaker Nasheed began work to form a special party branch after the primaries. Waheed said that MDP cannot change its presidential candidate and that forming a new branch does not mean that it is an attempt at opposing the candidate.
