Foreign Minister in Sri Lanka for 75th anniversary of independence

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has arrived in Sri Lanka on an official visit to attend the celebrations for the country’s 75th anniversary of independence.

During the visit, Minister Shahid will pay courtesy calls on the President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry. Minister Shahid will also visit the High Commission of the Maldives in Sri Lanka and meet with the Maldivian community living in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka celebrates Independence Day annually on February 4 to commemorate the country’s political independence from British rule in 1948. It is celebrated all over the country through a flag-hoisting ceremony, dances, parades, and performances.
