Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula has highlighted the importance of recruiting young people for the maritime sector. She made the remark during her visit to MSS Galena, a container ship of the Maldives State Shipping (MSS), at the Male’ Commercial Harbour.
During the visit, Minister Nahula provided details on the government’s work to get school children to become interested in the maritime sector. She highlighted the importance of students being taught more about the maritime sector and for the Maldives to have their own ships and resources.
Furthermore, Minister Nahula said that more young people should be trained in order to allow Maldivians to lead the country’s maritime sector. As such, she said that a system should be established to allow students to learn about the maritime sector at an early age. She added that MSS has the ministry’s full support in their developmental initiatives.
During the visit to MSS Galena, Minister Nahula met with the ship's crew and senior officials of MSS and observed the onboard operations. She was accompanied by the Managing Director of MSS Captain Abdulla Saeed and senior officials of the transport ministry and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
