Gov’t orders state institutions to not create new positions

Ministry of Finance has ordered state institutions to refrain from changing their salary structure and creating new positions without permission. The ministry made the statement in a circular signed by Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer.

In the circular, the ministry urged government offices to maintain their expenses in order to implement this year’s state budget. As such, offices have been advised to refrain from changing their salary structure and creating new positions without the ministry's approval, in order to abide by the National Pay Commission’s decision to reduce expenditure.

Additionally, government offices are required to obtain permission from the ministry to give promotions and change the ranks, positions, and salaries of employees. The ministry also advised offices to structure their work in order to complete it during office hours and to refrain from working on off-hours, unless necessary.

Furthermore, the ministry has made the decision to reduce travel expenses by requiring its permission for employees to go on official trips abroad. The ministry has also restricted giving out scholarships that are not under the national scholarship schemes and providing short-term courses and training opportunities abroad for which the expenses are not covered by foreign parties.
