Maldives and UK begin joint military exercise

The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and the Royal Military Police of the United Kingdom (UK) have commenced a joint military exercise.

MNDF said the exercises will be conducted in different areas of Male' City and Hulhumale for a period of nine days and will conclude on February 9. The British Royal Military Police and the MNDF will be deployed with weapons in various areas during the training. The exercise aims to identify the current capacities of the Maldives and the UK in coordinating emergency operations, and areas that need to be improved.

MNDF has been conducting such exercises in collaboration with foreign militaries. As such, the Maldives and the United States (US) conducted joint counter-terrorism exercises in August last year.
