Chief Justice of the Criminal Court Ahmed Shakeel and three other individuals have applied for the vacant position on the High Court bench.
Judicial Service Commission (JSC) opened applications for the High Court from January 16-30. JSC received four applications before the deadline. The individuals who applied for the High Court are judges Ahmed Shakeel, Mohamed Shaniz Abdulla, Hussain Shakeeb, and Mariyam Waheed. Judge Shakeel carried out the trial against former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom over the sale of Aarah, Vaavu Atoll, for resort development.
The salary of a high court judge is USD3,520. In addition, medical allowance and mobile allowance will be paid as stipulated by the Parliament of Maldives.
The JSC announced the recruitment of a judge for the High Court following the retirement of former High Court Judge Shuaib Zakariyya in November 2022.
