MCS begins 9th Custodial Management and Security Programme

The Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has begun the 9th Custodial Management and Security Programme.

A total of 37 male officers and 16 female officers are participating in the three-month programme, which is also the 27th basic training programme for new prison officers.

At the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Ibrahim Mohamed Didi highlighted the importance of learning and training for mental development. As such, he said the training programme will be challenging and encouraged the officers to make use of what they learn in their work.

The Custodial Management and Security Programme is being conducted by the Institute for Correctional Service (ICOST) at Maafushi Prison. The purpose of the programme is to teach and provide information and hands-on experience on the work of prison officers. It aims to make the trainees into professional and disciplined officers.

The programme includes modules on physical training, leadership skills, ethics, and laws and regulations. All prison officers are required to complete the programme.
