The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that it will award its presidential ticket to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in mid-February.
At a press conference, Deputy Chairperson of MDP Ibrahim Waheed said the party regulations dictate that the final result of the primary election be announced within the next five days. He added that President Solih will be officially awarded the ticket in February.
The preliminary results show that President Solih won the primary election with 61.10% of votes while Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed received 38.09%. MDP stated that the least number of complaints were submitted during this election and that none of the complaints are result-changing.
