President Solih confident to win presidential election more convincingly

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed confidence that he will win the presidential election more convincingly than he won the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) primary election. He made the remark to supporters at the MDP meeting hall after winning the main ruling party’s primary election in a landslide victory.

At the event, President Solih thanked his supporters and campaign team as well as voters and said that MDP has again shown the values of the democratic process through a competitive primary election. He said that the real work has begun and called on his rivals to work together with MDP to win the presidential election.

Additionally, President Solih highlighted the high level of camaraderie within MDP and said that the primary election does not change the values, which are national progress, development, and peace. He assured that he will win the presidential election more convincingly than he won the primary election and that members should set aside their differences to work together and win the upcoming election.

President Solih won the MDP primary election in a landslide, winning the majority in all the atolls. He also won the majority in all high-population regions, except Kulhudhuffushi City. As such, President Solih received 51% of the votes in Male’ City, 52% of the votes in Addu City, and 53% in Fuvahmulah City. Overall, President Solih won the primary election with 61%, which is 24,572 votes, while his rival Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed received 39%, which is 15,631 votes.
