Male' City Council seeks contractors to manage wast collection area

Male' City Council has announced it is seeking contractors to manage and maintain the area where waste is being collected.

The city council is seeking a contractor to assist in collecting waste from the streets and transporting it to the sites managed by Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO). The announcement comes after pictures of illegal waste collection circulated on social media. In addition, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has asked the council to clean up the site as waste management can be carried out in specially approved places.

The council has opened the second tender for the management of the waste collection area after the bids submitted in the first round were more expensive than the council estimated and did not receive an adequate response. Therefore, interested parties are requested to submit bids by January 31. The council also said bids are open to Maldivian companies, partnerships, local investments, and those licensed to conduct business in the Maldives.

Previously WAMCO was tasked to clean the capital city. However, the council chose not to renew the contract with the state-owned company.
