MDP's competitive presidential primary campaign ends

Two candidates of the Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) has successfully concluded the campaign launched for the presidential campaign.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed are contesting in the MDP primary election to be held on January 28. It is the first time a sitting president is contesting in a party primary in the Maldives. The campaign teams and supporters have been heavily criticising each other’s candidates as they draw near to the election. During the campaign period, both candidates have held competitive and exciting campaign events in Male' area and atolls. Two candidates held the last campaign event on January 27.

MDP stated that 49 ballot boxes will be placed in the Greater Male’ Region and 194 boxes will be placed in the atolls. As such, the boxes will be placed at various schools in Male’ and the atolls. The election will be held from 0900-1700hrs on January 28. A total of 57,257 members are eligible to vote in the primary election.
