Mathiveri water and sewerage system to be tested in February

Male' Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MWSC) has revealed efforts are underway to complete the water and sewerage project in Mathiveri, Alifu Alifu Atoll. The company said 80% of the project has been completed and will be ready for testing in February.

The work of establishing the water system in Mathiveri started in 2021. The construction of the water main pipeline began in December of the same year.

According to MWSC, a 6.7 km long main water network has been established in the island. The company has also completed the drilling of boreholes for groundwater extraction and the installation of two water storage tanks. In addition, the establishment of connecting households to the water network and the building where the water plant will be located has also been completed. The network will connect 236 households in the island. MWSC also stated that the installation of the water production plant is currently underway. The equipment needed to analyse the water produced under the project will also be provided to the island.

MWSC stated work has begun to establish the water network on the island. The state-owned company is tasked with completing the project at a cost of USD 2.5 million. The project is expected to solve the challenges faced by the island residents in receiving clean water.
