CSC seeks 41 more SGs for local councils

The Civil Service Commission of the Maldives (CSC) has announced the recruitment of 41 more Secretaries-General (SGs) for local councils.

The SG is the highest administrative position in the local council and is responsible for handling the administrative and financial tasks of the council. CSC first opened applications for the SG position for the secretariats of 200 councils in June 2021. However, only 127 SGs were appointed in the past year and some of the appointed SGs have since resigned from the position.

CSC has now announced seeking SGs for five atoll councils and 36 island councils. CSC announced that eligible candidates are invited to apply for two ranks of SGs for five-year terms. The salary of the first rank is USD1,044 and the salary of the second rank is USD796 for island councils. Meanwhile, the salary for atoll council SGs is USD1,361.

The requirements for SGs for the island council include having a bachelor's degree qualification, with four years of relevant work experience, or a master's degree with two years of relevant work experience. For atoll councils, a bachelor's degree with six years of experience or a master's degree with four years of experience would be required. Meanwhile, a bachelor's degree with eight years of experience or a master's degree with six years of experience would be required for city councils.
